A typical high/low rig works well in most situations, with snelled hooks tied 8 inches apart above the sinker. Other anglers have success with a fish-finder rig: two snelled hooks tied about 8 inches apart on a short, 30- to 50-pound leader fastened to a swivel below a sliding sinker, which slides on the main line.

This versatile rig works well whether drift-fishing, anchored or fishing from shore. One end of the leader is tied to the hook while the opposite end is tied to the swivel. The running line is then threaded through a plastic sleeve which also has a sinker snap to secure a weight.

You can use what’s known as a Carolina Rig, but I prefer something known as a “High/Low Rig” or sometimes called a “Fish-finder Rig”. The basic idea is the same, you have a sinker to hold your line to the bottom, and the bait suspended above it.

A simple dropper loop rig made from 30-50lb Fluorocarbon with a bank sinker on the bottom and 3-inch dropper loops tied 6 inches and 30 inches above the sinker can be very effective. Each dropper loop is threaded through the eye of a 1/0 or 2/0 bait holder style hook.
