Both the Tulip Sashiko Long Assortment and Short Assortment are worth having in your sewing tool kit. Please avoid using a needle threader with these as they tend to break the eye. Long or short?

To start, I chose the Maru bishamon (similar to kikkouon) kit. The 3-D effect has always appealed to me, and I felt variegated green thread would work well in the design.

I’ve done it plenty, but quilting in the Western style with thin thread and small needle just work out better in many cases. Sashiko works beautifully on a single layer of fabric. Two layers stitched together provide a pleasant texture and extra warmth.
