2010年6月30日 · Currently there are three WHO pre-qualified oral cholera vaccines (OCV): Dukoral®, Shanchol™, and Euvichol®. All three vaccines require two doses for full protection. Dukoral® is administered with a buffer solution that, for adults, requires 150 ml of clean water. Dukoral can be given to all individuals over the age of 2 years.

Shanchol™ is a ready-to-use killed bivalent (O1 and O139) whole-cell oral cholera vaccine administered as 2 doses 14 days apart in individuals aged 1 year and above. There is no need for buffer or water for its administration. It is currently licensed in India and 17 other countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Shanchol and Euvichol are two examples of killed oral vaccines that have the same composition, and are relatively less expensive. Both are prequalified and are available through the WHO global stockpile.

2022年1月5日 · We found that Shanchol ™ was immunogenic in our study population and that vibriocidal antibodies may not be a good marker for long-term immunity. The observed rise in titres after 36 months suggests natural exposure, and this may be a critical time window opening for natural transmission in an endemic areas.

Shanchol® vaccines used in controlled temperature chain (CTC) can be stored at temperatures of up to 40 °C for 14 days maximum. All vaccines removed from the cold chain and not used within 14 days or exposed to temperatures > 40 °C must be discarded.

2025年2月10日 · Shanchol Oral Vaccine helps prevent cholera. It can be given to anyone above the age of 1 year orally. Two doses are given at an interval of at least two weeks. The protective effect begins within 7-10 days of completion of the vaccination schedule. Cholera vaccine is usually given orally (by mouth) as a single dose.
