S&W M76冲锋枪虽然外观上和瑞典m/45B差异很大，但结构原理基本相同，都是自由后坐式枪机和开膛待击，但和m/45D一样有快慢机。 机匣为钢管，握把和弹匣插座焊接在机匣底部。
