2019年11月14日 · No, we don't. We have for some of our neighbours, for example we call Albanians in Kosovo "Shquiptars". It shouldn't be derogatory because that's exactly how they call themselves in Albanian but it is mostly used in negative and condescending context so they consider the term derogatory when a Serb is using it.

It's a slur you should never use. English has done highly idiomatic things with a few Russian words (the secondary English meanings of "tsar"/"czar" are another prominent example) which means that you need a good deal of immersion into English before you start to realize how the word is used, meaning that many Russians would at first assume it's just a neutral borrowing of our self-designation.

2014年3月20日 · I think you're right, in regards to "ruskie." however I'm not always sure what terms offend people from other places. If it's slang, chances are it's somewhat derogatory, to someone. Try calling someone from Alabama a "Yankee" and see how he reacts.

I didn't know about this word and am totally adding it to my vocab I would point out that just because it's "the word for Russian in Russian" doesn't mean too much in English, calling a Japanese person a "Nip" is going to be highly offensive even if it derives from Japanese "Nippon" because it hearkens back to WW2-era racist language
