Ruathym (pronounced: /ˈ r uː ə θ ɪ m / ROO-uh-thim[3]) was an island in the Trackless Sea and one of the larger islands north of the Moonshae Isles. [3][12][4][1][13] Fiercer than the Moonshaes—all cold and howling storms or chilling fogs over a land that's mostly peaks falling sharp into the sea.

Ruathym is the ancestral home of the Northlanders, the barbarians who colonized the northern Moonshaes and Luskan. Scattered steadings and villages cluster around the isle's fjords and inlets. The largest settlement is the town of Ruathym, a city of five thousand.

The seafaring Northmen settled Ruathym, Old Illusk, the other isles of the Trackless Sea, the northern Sword Coast, and the lower Delimbiyr valley, in roughly that order. Netherese refugees fled west, seeking new lands beyond the reach of the phaerimms and the hated archwizards.
