2012年10月7日 · So P8 really is a true Rover and owed almost nothing to BL. The consequences of the cancellation were extremely far reaching. The Rover engineering team were opened up to the rest of BL as part of the Specialist Division (hence SD1) and also found roles within the BMC design team at Longbridge. BMC people also got access to Rover.

2012年12月16日 · It is believed to be one of the 4.4-litre V8 P8 prototypes, three of which were powered by the 4.4, the remaining three, 3.5s. As you may also know, the dash design influenced the early SD1s, the skeletal badge was designed for the P8 and found its way onto the early SD1 and the clover leaf wheel trims also found their way into the SD1.

But there equally seems to have been a possibility that P8 was scheduled to acquire the 4.4 ltr V8 version of the twin cam 16 valve slant four that was derived from the Rover 2000 unit.

2012年10月7日 · P8 started development in '66 after Rover decided that the 3ltr six cylinder version of P6, known as P7, was a dead end. P8 and P10 were developed in parallel from '70, P8 to replace P5B and P6B and P10 to replace the 4 pot P6's and have a bash at the Granada company car market.

2009年12月14日 · P76 development starts in '69 after delayed go-ahead by the newly formed BL. in '71 P8 is cancelled and P10 becomes SD1 with the Rover and Triumph design teams brought together. At this stage you would expect P76 to be in early project definition, not yet ready for serious engineering to start.

A google search for 'Rover P7' gives us Rare Rovers - P7 Of note on this page are the descriptions of the P7 prototypes, including the notes for P7A and very importantly the P7/C. These cars were heavily disguised so that motoring photographers were unable to release pictures of the finished car. The P8 is fitted with both a grille and rear bumber/light surround both of which look out of place and poorly fitted.
