On May 18, 2009, after 61 years, 4 months, and 11 days of state ownership, the Bran Castle was returned to the children of Princess Ileana of Romania, Dominic, Elisabeth, and Maria Magdalena. All traces of the family had been eliminated. What once was Queen Marie’s most cherished residence, and our family home, was stripped and barren.

Bran Castle (Romanian: Castelul Bran; German: Schloss Bran or Die Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvári kastély) is a castle in Bran, 25 kilometres (16 mi) southwest of Brașov. The castle was built by Saxons in 1377 who were given the privilege by Louis I of Hungary. It is a national monument and landmark in Transylvania.

Queen Maria of Romania, born Princess of Edinburgh in 1875, received Bran Castle from the local council of Brasov as a gift after WW1. It was the beginning of the most glamorous age of this Transylvanian medieval fortress, mentioned for the first time in the 14th century.

Perched on a cliff with a flowing river beneath, Bran Castle, a.k.a Dracula’s Castle, is an iconic landmark in Romania. This is one of the most gorgeous fortresses with a history that spans 6 centuries. The castle played an important role in defending Transylvania’s border and has witnessed a lot of changes and administrations over time.

2023年9月5日 · While Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula was never part of the real history of Bran Castle, one important royalty figure from Romania’s history was. Queen Marie played a significant role in transforming Bran Castle into a royal residence during her reign as Queen Consort of Romania and much of what the castle is today can be attributed to her.

After Transylvania became part of Romania, Bran Castle (that was owned by the city of Brașov) was gifted to Queen Marie by the Brașov magistrate. The queen transformed it into a royal residence in the 1920s, and today it is one of Romania's most popular visitor sites.

2024年5月26日 · Queen Marie, the granddaughter of Queen Victoria of England and the wife of King Ferdinand I of Romania, played a pivotal role in the history of Bran Castle. A passionate advocate for the arts and a skilled diplomat, Queen Marie fell in love with the castle during a visit in 1920 and decided to make it her personal retreat (Mandache, 2011, p. 56).

Bran Castle, situated between the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains, 30 km far from Brasov, is the only touristic point that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists because of a legend: Count Dracula’s Legend, although the historical sources state that Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler) dropped by only once, in his way to Brasov.
