Cut Rifling:
Rifling: What Is It? What Is The Purpose Of Rifling In A Gun?
Oct 19, 2023 · Rifling refers to the spiral (helical) grooves that are cut or swagged on the internal surface (bore) of a gun barrel, which helps impart the spinning motion to a bullet when it’s fired. A spinning bullet is found to be more stable in its trajectory, and is therefore more accurate than a bullet that doesn’t spin.
Back To Basics: Rifling | An Official Journal Of The NRA
The purpose of rifling is to impart a spin to a projectile as it is thrust through the air in order to stabilize it and allow it to be more accurate.
Rifling - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rifling consists of spiral grooves cut into the inside of a barrel of a gun. [1] . It causes the bullet or projectile to spin as it flies through the air. This greatly improves the accuracy of the bullet over longer distances. [2] . The first muskets to use this technology were called rifles. [2] . Barrels are rifled using a left or right twist.

Aug 19, 2016 · These grooves became known together as “rifling” and they are a key technology in modern rifle (as the name suggests) and pistol barrels. Rifling works by spinning the projectile about its axis, causing gyroscopic forces that spin-stabilize it throughout its flight; tighter rifling will spin a bullet faster, while looser rifling will spin a ...
