As part of a nationwide strategy, Fonterra were looking at ways to reduce their water usage over a number of key sites. DETA assisted Fonterra to identify a shortlist of water minimisation and reuse opportunities at the Reporoa site, based on their potential to reduce wastewater volumes.

Fonterra Reporoa is situated nearby to the archaeological site Matarae Pa, as well as near the peak Kairuru. Reporoa is a rural community in Rotorua Lakes within the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. Reporoa is situated 3 km east of Fonterra Reporoa.
