2024年1月25日 · There are two different Registry editors in Windows 11 , the C:\Windows\regedit.exe and the other one at C:\Windows\System32\regedt32.exe. The latter is the one that seems to work , at least I could make a successful change. Perhaps I was in the wrong place. Thank you for your support.

It would actually take some extra effort for regedit.exe to come up missing since it is one of the 3498 files covered by Windows File Protection, but you said the "AVG" word and I have seen AVG quarantine (effectively delete) critical XP system files.

2016年5月26日 · The "set other applications" part is referring to other programs that would give that error, it has been suggested to run them in compatibility work, regedit.exe (registry editor) is a completely different case here and its a native windows program / application that shouldn't be run in compatibility mode (and cannot be run in compatibility mode!).

If you would look in the correct folder and use the correct file name you would be able to find regedt32.exe: There used to be a difference between regedit.exe and regedt32.exe but since Windows XP, when you launch regedt32.exe it ends up running regedit.exe:
