The rackett, raggett, cervelas, or sausage bassoon is a Renaissance -era double reed wind instrument, introduced late in the sixteenth century and already superseded by bassoons at the end of the seventeenth century. There are four sizes of rackett, in a family ranging from descant (soprano), tenor-alto, bass to great bass.

Das Rankett, auch Ranckett, Rackett oder Rakett, ist ein Holzblasinstrument der Renaissance und des Barock. Beim Renaissancerankett ragt aus einem runden Holzblock aus Birne oder Ahorn oben ein senkrechtes Türmchen heraus, auf dem senkrecht das Doppelrohrblatt sitzt. Diese Bauweise ähnelt äußerlich den Türmen der Stadtbefestigung von Sevilla.

It is a double-reed woodwind instrument characterized by its compact, cylindrical shape and a surprisingly resonant, low-pitched sound. Despite its small size, the rackett produces a deep and powerful tone, thanks to its ingenious internal design.

The rackett is an instrument that was mainly used in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The name derives from the german word for "crooked". The early racketts evolved into two slightly different instruments. We now distinguish the so called renaissance and baroque racketts.
