2010年9月25日 · In testing a range hood, it is assumes that there WILL be a grease build-up and that there WILL be a fire. So, they pack it with grease and light it up. It becomes quickly clear that the smallest pinhole will shoot a lance of flame at the nearest combustible, and that the piping will get red-hot in a heartbeat.

2017年5月1日 · So I made provisions for ductwork that could adapt to an unknown height. I installed a 10-in. wide by 3-1/4-in. deep rectangular duct centered in the wall where the range would go. I ran the duct several inches higher than the exhaust port would probably be and installed a cap at the end of the duct.

2009年11月10日 · thanks for the feedback everyone; I think I might go ahead and put the duct exhaust there then. It's the most convenient spot mechanically, but I wasn't sure about the code that stated range hoods had to exhaust 3 feet from an opening (is a gable vent considered an opening?)The duct will be very well sealed, and I plan on wrapping the run with a R13 batt and taping the seams.

2008年7月11日 · I made the mistake of using 4" last year for our range hood. On high speed you could hear the fan sputtering from the restriction. I just ripped the whole mess apart last month and installed a 6". It's made a huge difference. If you can't find a vent pipe that you're happy with, check with a local sheet metal or HVAC shop.

The vent moves exhaust air from the range to the outside through a duct (usually in the floor), making an overhead vent unnecessary. Because they afford an unobstructed view, downdraft vents are great for islands and peninsulas.
