The R850GS is the smaller-capacity companion to the R1100GS. While the Rl 100GS was superseded by the updated R1150GS in 1999, the R850GS remained in production as a cheaper, lower-capacity alternative. Cosmetically and mechanically, it is almost identical to the older Rl 100GS, the only external signs of its smaller capacity being the tank badges.
