Puabi (Akkadian: 𒅤𒀜 pu3-AD fl. c. 2550 BC[4]), also called Shubad or Shudi-Ad due to a misinterpretation by Sir Charles Leonard Woolley, was an important woman in the Sumerian city of Ur, during the First Dynasty of Ur. [4] .

Queen Puabi, recovered in situ, was adorned with ornaments made from gold, silver, and semi-precious stones. The raw materials used to make this jewelry came from a great distance, and represented Ur’s far-reaching trade connections. From skeletal remains, the excavators determined that Puabi was about five feet tall and 40 years old.

Queen Puabi’s tomb was one of the most elaborate of these royal graves. Her underground complex started with a sloping passage that led into a large pit, with the vaulted stone burial chamber at one end.

Queen Puabi's headdress is a 2600–2450 BCE Mesopotamian crown consisting of ornate gold leaf wreaths, strands of lapis lazuli and carnelian beads, with a gold comb, and delicate hair ribbons. [1] . The entirety of the headdress is estimated to weigh over 6 pounds. [2] .
