2020年1月2日 · I've killed them with 223, 260, 243, 30-06 and 338 Win Mag. With the right bullets (tougher is better) and and good shot placement (ie not through bones) you won't ruin much meat. That said, I think the 243 through 6.5's with long, slick bullets are great for pronghorn. The suggestions of 243 and/or 6.5 Creedmoor are very good choices IMO.

2016年12月1日 · Pronghorn is easily my favorite meat. I've harvested 5. My first one, was killed in the middle of the day. We gutted it and threw it in the truck where it spent several hours in the heat dirt and sun. We hung it over night then butchered it the next day. It was definitely gamey, but wasn't horrible to me. No one else would touch it though.

2015年8月14日 · Yeah, I guess it makes sense that pressure would skyrocket during modern rifle relative to muzzy. I've hunted those units (as well as a couple bundled with those further north for muzzleloader) two years and had one or two decent stalks each trip. Slim pickings compared to a lot of other western state pronghorn units.

2008年10月3日 · Drill a small hole though each horn on the back for a small nail. Boil/simmer the whole head with the horns submerged to right below prongs for about 30 minutes.

2020年6月20日 · Pronghorn are rather small animals, so my opinion is all you need is an accurate (for your rifle) cap and core bullet. Remington Core-lokt or Hornady Interlock bullets will do just fine. Hit them in the right spot and you will be eating antelope.

2019年11月16日 · In the late '70s I had a local gunsmith re-chamber a Mauser Mark X in .25-06 to .257 Ackley...mainly because I liked the looks of the case. They are ballistically pretty close. With 115-120 grain bullets, this has been my favorite deer and pronghorn rifle ever since.
