Polylepis is a genus comprising 28 recognised shrub and tree species, [1] that are endemic to the mid- and high-elevation regions of the tropical Andes. [2] This group is unique in the rose family in that it is predominantly wind-pollinated.

As a result, Peru could be considered as the country with the largest diversity of Polylepis species, in comparison with Bolivia (13), Ecuador (7), Argentina (4), Colombia (3), Chile (2), and Venezuela (1). The species occur in 19 departments of Peru, with the majority of them in Cusco (10) and Ayacucho (8).

The objective of this research is to clarify the distribution of Polylepis forests in the Tacna region, Peru. The methodology was based on exploring the forests of Polylepis where information relevant to the realization of forest zoning was collected and taken.
