Maybe if you change the whole line it could work, my ideal evolution line for Plesiomon is currently: Gomamon>Tortomon>Brachiomon>Plesiomon. The idea is Gomamon, who is vaguely reptilian and mamalian, goes from reptilian to dinosaur instead of sea mamals.

Honestly, many prefer Vikemon just because it has a similar body to Zudomon (large and bipedal), and even in appearance, Zudomon and Ikkakumon don't match either. Gomamon, Ikkakumon, Zudomon and Plesiomon are marine animals, so it fits into the Gomamon line.
