Trichomes (/ ˈtraɪkoʊmz, ˈtrɪkoʊmz /; from Ancient Greek τρίχωμα (tríkhōma) ' hair ') are fine outgrowths or appendages on plants, algae, lichens, and certain protists. They are of diverse structure and function. Examples are hairs, glandular hairs, scales, and papillae.
