2012年1月5日 · North American pine nuts come from the Pinyon Pine (Pinus edulis) and a couple others which all grow in the southwestern states and Mexico. Other countries have species that also produce nuts. They are a pain to harvest. I just use walnuts instead. Michigan doesn't have any pines that produce nuts big enough to bother trying to collect.

I did not know I need to store the pine nuts in their shells in glass jars in the refrigerator until I had time to unshell all of them.

2024年7月30日 · I have been told that some of the best places to harvest pinon pine nuts in Colorado include the Sangre de Cristo mountains in Costilla, Alamosa, and Saguache counties. Fremont and Chaffee counties (several people mentioned the Buena Vista area in Chaffee county) also are good places. The headwaters area of the Arkansas river is popular.

I have had one or two goods nuts over the 21 years I have owned the home. I've heard it could be bugs but the nuts look perfect. I've heard over watering, but that seems like nonsense to me.

Good to find 'em and eat 'em not so good to try to grow them. The public doesn't understand that there are many kinds of pine nuts.

Male cones are smaller and female cones are larger. Once pollinated, female cones grow the seeds. Some of the female cones take up to 12 months to grow mature seeds.

So, the tree produced these cones last year, and held onto them for summer of 2022, and dropped them in the fall of 2023.
