Kevin Langergraber has studied the behavioral and molecular ecology of the Ngogo group of chimpanzees in Kibale National Park, Uganda, since 2001. He has served as co-director of the Ngogo Chimpanzee Project, a long-term field project devoted to the research and conservation of Ngogo chimpanzees, since 2011.

Kibale National Park is in southwestern Uganda. It is the second largest remaining forest in Uganda and has the largest remaining population of chimpanzees in the country. Kibale is a mid-altitude, moist semi-deciduous forest, with plant species composition and diversity intermediate between lowland and montane African moist evergreen forests.
