Peter Burchard (March 1, 1921 – July 3, 2004) [1] was an author, free-lance designer, and illustrator. He wrote the book One Gallant Rush (1965), about Colonel Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Massachusetts Regiment , the first African-American unit in the Union Army.

Peter Burchard is adjunct faculty focusing on ethics and innovation. He received his B.S. in political Science and his MPA from NIU. Peter spent an undergraduate semester studying international relations at Salzburg College in Austria.

As a coach Maestro Burchard has had over 30 athletes on Team USA to the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, World Championships, World University Games and Maccabiah Games. Currently Maestro Burchard is President of USA Fencing and serves as a Board Member of the Bay Cup and NorCal division.
