2024年9月4日 · Fat stranding is a common sign seen on CT wherever fat can be found. It is most commonly seen in abdomen/pelvis, but can also be seen in retroperitoneum, thorax, neck and subcutaneous tissues. It can be helpful in localizing both acute and chronic pathology.

Remarkable MSCT features, such as gallbladder distension, wall thickening, and pericholecystic fat stranding, are valuable for their role in diagnosis . The present study proposes that fat stranding may be associated with AC severity. In addition, other MSCT features may assist in distinguishing between complicated and uncomplicated AC.

Pericholecystic Fat Stranding: Acute Cholecystitis Acute cholecystitis is caused by a calculus that obstructs the neck of the gallbladder or the cystic duct. Similar to the sequence of events in acute appendicitis, the gallbladder initially becomes distended with bile that cannot drain into the common bile duct.

Fat stranding on CT describes the fat next to a structure looking lighter and dirtier than the usual homogeneous dark gray found throughout the body. Often fat stranding on CT is seen around an inflamed structure but can also be seen with infection, trauma, cancer and following surgery.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty patients with surgically proved right upper quadrant inflammatory lesions in the gallbladder or the pericholecystic space underwent color Doppler sonography (CDS).

CT findings suggesting acute cholecystitis include gallbladder distention, wall thickening, mucosal hyperenhancement, pericholecystic fat stranding, gallstones (approximately 65–75% of which are detectable by CT), and reactive hyperemia resulting in hyperenhancement of the hepatic parenchyma of the gallbladder fossa.
