This village was first recognised when Vasco Da Gama, the famous Portuguese traveller, discovered a sea route to India and arrived at Kappad Beach, 21 km from Payyoli.

Payyoli Beach is a beach situated in Payyoli, on the North Malabar coast of Kozhikode district in Kerala, India. It is known for being the birthplace of India’s renowned athlete P.T Usha, who was referred to as the “Payyoli Express.”
