The passive writing voice occurs when something that is ordinarily “done by” the subject of a sentence is “done by” the object of a sentence. In the passive writing voice, whatever is doing the action of the sentence is not the grammatical subject of the sentence.

A passive sentence is a sentence where the subject does not perform the action of the verb. In a passive sentence, the action of the verb is done to the subject. 'The cake was eaten by the dog' is an example of a passive sentence.

We make the passive by putting the verb 'to be' into whatever tense we need and then adding the past participle. For regular verbs, we make the past participle by adding 'ed' to the infinitive.
