The INC was a strictly secular party. Ofc, many of them were Hindus, naturally. And after Partition, tens to hundreds of millions of Muslims lived in India. India had lots of problems in its first 30-50 years, but communal sectarianism is something Congress should be credited with not being terrible on. They were secular for a long time.

Personally my grandparents came to 'India' post partition and the seeds of ill will sown then are still bearing fruit.
