Simply stated, an R on T premature ventricular complex means that a QRS complex from a premature ventricular beat lands on the preceding T wave. That’s it. So what is the big deal? Unfortunately, this condition can set the patient up for life-threatening arrhythmias. The most common is polymorphic ventricular tachycardia.

To identify PVCs on your watch ECG, look for inverted or absent P waves, wide QRS complexes, and changes in T waves. Occasional PVCs are generally not concerning for individuals without underlying heart conditions. However, frequent PVCs can increase the risk of developing more serious heart conditions.
