Class H10s was built primarily for PRR Lines West, and featured a typical Lines West tender with sloping side coal boards at the top, to enable a bigger load of coal to be carried. Some locomotives of this type were leased to the PRR-owned Long Island Rail Road, becoming the primary freight-hauling type on that system.

H10 class was similar to H-9s, but with a 1" larger piston diameter (2" larger than the H-8s).

The H10 class was primarily built for the PRR's Lines West, and so that will be my personal focus as the Chartiers branch fell under that region. After the 4-6-0 G5, the H10 was probably the second most-often-seen engine on the branch line. The Lines West version has a high-side tender, to increase its coal-carrying capacity.

In the 1950's Coal was delivered to Sandusky from Columbus by big J1's. The Pennsy kept eight to twelve 2-8-0, H10 consolidations busy at Sandusky moving those coal hoppers between the yard and the dock on Lake Erie. Al Shade, Jr., made this recording of an H10 switching cars in the Sandusky yard in 1957.

2015年6月2日 · I have heard BLI will produce a lines east H10 which will have a different tender then the Crawford which was nearly 100% lines west. PRR had massive numbers of 2-8-0 engines. On the order of 3-5000 as I recall. The demand is great for more. Total rumor mill is a 2-8-2 might be next but that is total speculation.

2016年12月13日 · Lionel took a 2-8-0 mechanism from a Union Pacific locomotive, stuck a boiler with a Belpaire firebox on it and called it a PRR H9s. The driver spacing is far too wide for an H10 and the boiler needed to be stretched to match the mechanism so the locomotive has more of a stretched/sleek look as opposed to a chunky H10s.
