Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) | Public Health Statement | ATSDR
In water, PCBs may be transported by currents, attach to bottom sediment or particles in the water, and evaporate into air. Heavy kinds of PCBs are more likely to settle into sediments while lighter PCBs are more likely to evaporate to air.
PCBs in Groundwater Generally, PCBs are hydrophobic and do not like mixing with water. Therefore, PCBs are more typically found in soil rather than groundwater. However, PCB contamination may be present in groundwater because of facilitated transport associated with solvents, emulsions, or other colloids.
Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) Analysis in Water - Agilent
PCBs persist in the environment, cycling between air, water, and soil. With Agilent solutions such as GC/MS systems, PCBs can be analyzed at exceedingly low detection limits in water samples.

6 天之前 · PCBs do not readily break down once in the environment. They can remain for long periods cycling between air, water and soil. PCBs can be carried long distances and have been found in snow and sea water in areas far from where they were released into the environment. As a consequence, they are found all over the world.
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in water: method …
2020年2月7日 · Method performance for real samples was tested with water collected weekly in triplicate during April 2018 from a eutrophic river in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The total (dissolved + particulate) PCB concentrations ranged from 2.17 to 5.29 ng L −1, above the threshold for river water quality standards in Brazil.
Toxicity of polychlorinated biphenyls in aquatic environments – A ...
2022年10月1日 · PCBs deteriorate water quality, pollute water, and represent a definite potential health hazard or risk when they are taken up by aquatic species. This is due to their accumulation in aquatic animal tissues or because of their lipophilicity, hydrophobicity and low biodegradability (Zani et al., 2019).
PCBs in Water: Water Treatment Methods - TruLawsuit Info
2025年3月12日 · Removing PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) from water is vital for ensuring the safety of drinking water and maintaining environmental health. Several water treatment technologies have been designed to remove PCBs, employing chemical filtration, chemical decomposition, and water purification methods.
Water contaminated with PCBs should not be used for drinking. A safe, alternate source of water should be used for drinking, beverage-making and food preparation. Other uses of water pose much less hazard, but are not entirely safe if PCBs levels are significantly above the drinking water limit. Can I wash my food with PCB-contaminated water?
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in intertidal sediment and water …
2023年11月1日 · Highly-chlorinated PCBs were dominant homologues in water. Hexa-PCBs (PCB-138 and PCB-153) were the dominant congeners in most water samples. Low total toxicity equivalent concentrations of dioxin-like sediment-associated PCBs are reported.

2024年12月17日 · Data on dissolved phase water concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from 32 locations across the U.S. were compiled from reports, Web sites, and peer-reviewed papers, spanning 1979–2020, resulting in 5132 individual samples. Data wrangling enabled the organization and analysis of this extensive data set.
