Orly Air Base was a United States Air Force Facility during the early part of the Cold War, located at Aéroport de Paris-Orly, 15 kilometres (9 mi) south of Paris, France. The American Air Base was located on the north side of the airport, in an area east of the current-day Val-de-Marne/Essonne.

Orly Air Base was located at Aeroport de Paris-Orly, nine miles (15 km) south of Paris, France off Autoroute A6/A10m with a highway exit directly into the base. Orly Air Base was developed after World War II when Orly Airport was used as a combat Advanced Landing Ground, designated as "A-47" by US Army Air Force's Ninth Air Force.

France agreed to provide air base sites. Between 1950 and 1967 the United States Air Force operated 11 major air bases in France. There were other communications sites, NATO Dispersed Operating Bases, Sub-Depots and minor facilities at several French Airports, such as Orly Airport and Marseille Provence Airport.

Paris Orly Airport (French: Aéroport de Paris-Orly, pronounced [aeʁɔpɔʁ də paʁi ɔʁli]) (IATA: ORY, ICAO: LFPO) is one of two international airports serving Paris, France, the other one being Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). It is located partially in Orly and partially in Villeneuve-le-Roi, 13 km (8.1 mi) south [2] of Paris [clarification needed].

While Orly remained in American hands after the war, plans were made to repair most of the wartime damage and return it to use as a civilian air port. On 7 November 1947, it was returned to the French Government, it is now the site of Orly International Airport.

Rebuilt after the war as a joint civil/military airfield, the primary use of the base was to support Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) at Rocquencourt. Secondary functions were as a personnel processing center for inbound and outbound personnel assigned to France, and as a limited operational transport base.
