The Orion VI was a low-floor transit bus available in 40' lengths manufactured by Ontario Bus Industries (renamed Orion Bus Industries in 1995) between 1995 and 2003. The Orion VI was intended to provide an alternative to the existing high-floor Orion V; both the V and VI were replaced by the partially low-floor Orion VII (introduced in 2001).

The Orion Bus Industries Orion VI (model 06.501) was the company's first full sized low floor transit bus. A fair number of buses were sold in Ontario as the provincial government committed to funding the accessible, low floor bus.

Orion Bus Industries, also known as Bus Industries of America in the United States, was a private bus manufacturer based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The company had its main manufacturing plant in Mississauga and sent bus body shells to their plant in Oriskany, New York, for final assembly and testing of vehicles destined for U.S. markets. [1]

2024年7月27日 · At the start of 1994, the Toronto Transit Commission awarded Ontario Bus Industries a $37.7 million contract for the supply of 100 of their new low-floor buses. The TTC had previously purchased the low-floor Orion II, but the new 40-foot Orion VI would be used in conventional service.

2006年12月21日 · They were OBI's first attempt at a low floor bus. You cannot expect a new product to be perfect on the first attempt. To me, Orion VI's were the first LF bus I rode, and initial reactions was pretty postive. The Orion VII (Which is a vast improvement over the VI), is the result of the lessons that OBI learned from the VI.

Notes: The Orion VI was the company's first full sized low floor transit bus. The prototype was introduced in 1993 at that year's American Public Transportation Association Expo. Regular production began in 1996, with Capital District Transportation Authority receiving the first buses, followed soon after by Brampton Transit.
