Popularly known as the Club Med Ruins, the “ruins” found at the Old Hanalei Plantation property overlooking Hanalei Bay are actually from a failed 1980s development. There actually was a Club Med Resort on this property in the 1970s, and before that there was a 1960s hotel development (the Hanalei Plantation Hotel).

We believe that Old Club Med Trail is ideal for those looking for an easy, short hike complete with breathtaking views of Hanalei Bay and its surf break. Nature lovers will love trying to identify trees and flowers, while history buffs will marvel at the ruins of the 60s Club Med.

The Old Club Med Trail is an easy walking path that descends to a grassy promontory standing over the east end of Hanalei Bay, with a small offshoot trail that descends down to Pu'u Poa Beach. The trail, alternatively known as the Hanalei Plantation Trail, descends through a scenic landscape standing above the Hanalei River.

Club Med is built around outdoor group activities. And it just rained too often in winter to support the concept. After a couple years as word got out, it would be packed in summer and hurting in winter.

2023年1月7日 · These are the ruins of the old Club Med property after it was demolished (all but the foundations mostly) by Iniki in 1992. Per most Club Med properties, there was not one big hotel, rather a series of small units each with an ocean view.

Does anyone know if the old Club Med just north of San Carlos is operating under new management ? I saw it a couple of years ago and it was open but quite run down...Thanks.
