The Ocicat is an all-domestic breed of cat which resembles a wild cat but has no recent wild DNA in its gene pool. It is named for its resemblance to the ocelot. The breed was established from the Siamese and Abyssinian and later on American Shorthair would be added.

It is a medium-sized to large, well-proportioned and lustrous cat that has surprising weight for its moderate size. Ocicats are solid and well-muscled, with a noticeable fullness of body and chest. Their hindquarters are slightly higher than their shoulders when viewed in profile.

Ocicats aren’t all that new and they’re anything BUT wild! Selectively bred from three of the cat fancy’s most popular breeds, this 100% domestic hybrid was designed to emulate the spotted wildcats of Central and South America.

The Ocicat stands out among house cats with its wild appearance and lively personality. This breed, which began in the United States, was created by crossing Siamese, Abyssinian, and American Shorthair cats.

The Ocicat is 100-percent domestic but looks like a smaller version of the ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) a 20- to 30-pound spotted wildcat that generally ranges from southwestern Texas to northern Argentina.
