English has lots of synonyms, and it’s sometimes hard to explain why someone uses one but not another. To go along with “nuh uh” for no, there’s “uh huh” for yes. From a learners’ standpoint, I would probably just think of them as slightly less formal, probably not use them myself, but not think too much of it if someone else used it.

Adults might use "nuh-uh" in a casual, joking context, adopting a deliberate affect of immaturity. My intuition is also that the phonemes matter more in "nuh-uh!"

It reminds us of being children and the petty disputes kids have when they insist something is or isn’t so. Also it really is not used seriously outside of childhood. Adults say “uh huh” for yes often, and “uh uh” or however you spell the standard one for no. But “nuh uuuuhhh” and “yeah huh!!” are really just for kids.

2024年5月31日 · It's difficult to say "uh" after "yuh" and difficult to say "huh" after "nuh" so the "huh" and the "uh" became sufficient to identify meaning. This was confirmed when eventually the "n" and the "y" dropped off. Is my totally speculative guess.

2024年3月24日 · In grade school a kid I knew would reply to everyone with “nuh huh” in a sassy voice just to be annoying. I tried explaining to him that “nuh” must always be followed by “uh”, whereas “huh” always follows “uh”. He just stared at me and said “NUH HUH”

Actually this game is technically more fun because every scientist,guard,hecu,blackops,headcrab,hound eyes,racex and even other alien characters who where canceled are all played by real players and its not an rp it’s actually round based shooter but each round can be eternal because to end the match wich is kinda useless the blackops need to nuke the facility to end the match.
