Those amps are going to fail sooner or later, just because of age. While actively powered speakers were a decent idea, designing to a price point meant the amps were always going to be the weak spot.

It is not a good idea to use any type of output transformer in this day and age. If you are going to make high end equipment these days, then it really needs to be able to be mounted in a 19" rack.
