C420 - NKP. Purchased in June of 1964, this ALCo C420 was the last locomotive that the Nickel Plate Road purchased. Number 578 was a member of the American Locomotive Company's newest product line, the Century class. ALCo produced 131 C420's from 1963 to 1968.

The only C420 owned by Nickel Plate Road before the merger. ex NKP Alco C420 was sold for scrap in July of 1978. "Note" the Bell in the front of the nose as were most of NKP units were done this way.
