Hubble Finds Weird Home of Farthest Fast Radio Burst - Science@NASA
2024年1月9日 · Astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have found a rare event in an oddball place. It's called a fast radio burst (FRB), a fleeting blast of energy that can – for a few milliseconds – outshine an entire galaxy. Hundreds of FRBs have been detected over the …
Fast radio burst - Wikipedia
Fast radio bursts are bright, unresolved (pointsource-like), broadband (spanning a large range of radio frequencies), millisecond flashes found in parts of the sky. Unlike many radio sources, the signal from a burst is detected in a short period of time with enough strength to …
Hubble Tracks Down Fast Radio Bursts to Galaxies’ Spiral Arms
2021年5月20日 · Astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope have traced the locations of five brief, powerful radio blasts to the spiral arms of five distant galaxies. Called fast radio bursts (FRBs), these extraordinary events generate as much energy in a thousandth of a second as the Sun does in a year.
Guideline for Forming and Operating Failure Review Boards and ... - NASA
This handbook provides recommended guidelines for creating and conducting failure review boards (FRBs) and anomaly review boards (ARBs).
NASA Missions Help Pinpoint the Source of a Unique X-ray, Radio …
2020年11月4日 · The flare-up included the first fast radio burst (FRB) ever seen from within our Milky Way galaxy and shows that magnetars can produce these mysterious and powerful radio blasts previously only seen in other galaxies.
CHIME/FRB Discovery of 25 Repeating Fast Radio Burst Sources - NASA…
We present the discovery of 25 new repeating fast radio burst (FRB) sources found among CHIME/FRB events detected between 2019 September 30 and 2021 May 1. The sources were found using a new clustering algorithm that looks for multiple events colocated on the sky having similar dispersion measures (DMs).
NASA SVS | Hubble Tracks Origins Of Energy Blasts
2021年5月20日 · Fast radio bursts or FRBs, are extraordinary events that generate as much energy in a thousandth of a second as the Sun does in an entire year! Astronomers, using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have traced the locations of eight brief, powerful FRBs; five of which are near or on their host galaxy’s spiral arms.
The flat tail in the burst energy distribution of FRB 20240114A
3 天之前 · Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) are enigmatic millisecond-duration radio transients of extra-galactic origin, whose underlying mechanisms and progenitors remain poorly understood. FRBs are broadly classified into two categories: repeating FRBs, which emit multiple bursts over time, and one-off FRBs, which are detected as single events. A central question in FRB research is whether these two classes ...
GCN - Circulars - 39787 - FRB 20250316A: Upper limits for gamma …
2025年3月20日 · Considering three typical spectral models (i.e. soft, normal and hard Band functions), three timescales and the FRB localization (RA = 182.476 deg, Dec = +58.8494 deg (J2000)), the 3 sigma upper limits of the gamma-ray transient energy flux (10 keV-1 MeV, in units of 10^-7 erg/s/cm^2) are reported below:
[1603.08880] The repeating Fast Radio Burst FRB 121102: Multi ...
2016年3月29日 · We report on radio and X-ray observations of the only known repeating Fast Radio Burst (FRB) source, FRB 121102. We have detected six additional radio bursts from this source: five with the Green Bank Telescope at 2 GHz, and one at 1.4 GHz at the Arecibo Observatory for a total of 17 bursts from this source.
