Moravia, traditional region in central Europe that served as the centre of a major medieval kingdom, known as Great Moravia, before it was incorporated into the kingdom of Bohemia in the 11th century.

Moravia is the second largest and second most populous of these regions (after Bohemia). It boasts seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The biggest city and the former capital of Moravia is the beautiful city of Brno.

Wandering around the region, you will encounter numerous castles and stately homes with magnificent gardens, a riot of churches, monasteries and religious buildings.

If Bohemia is about towns and cities, Moravia is all rolling hills and pretty landscapes. The capital, Brno, has the museums, but the northern city of Olomouc has captivating architecture. The lesser-visited south is dominated by vineyards and, naturally, wine-drinking day-tipplers.
