5 天之前 · Skid plates protected the engine where it skated-over deep-embedded-in-dirt pre-Cambrian rocks. My 2007 Corolla only needs new suspension bushings and shocks to ride better on-roads than the Tacoma. It does things that other vehicles cannot, takes me places that I want to go instead of "sipping gas riding in shopping mall parking lots".

These voids are designed for off pavement traction and ability to shed/clear rocks and mud (to maintain traction). They make the tires less smooth, have higher rolling resistance and generate more noise.
