The Mark 46 torpedo is the backbone of the United States Navy's lightweight anti-submarine warfare torpedo inventory and is the NATO standard. These aerial torpedoes are designed to attack high-performance submarines.

The Mk 46 is a gas-operated, air-cooled, belt-fed lightweight machine gun (LWMG) in use with United States special operations forces (SOF) since 2003. It is a variant of the M249 SAW light machine gun that has been designed by Fabrique Nationale (FN) to be as light and compact as possible and was tailored specifically for use by SOF.

The 5.56x45mm FN® MK 46 MOD 1 is the lightweight U.S. special operators’ variant of the FN® M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). The MK 46 MOD 1 incorporates improved receiver pins, a feed tray with retention pawls and a vented hand guard with improved heat shield and three MIL-STD-1913 rails.

The Mk 46 is a lightweight torpedo of US origin. It was developed in the early 1960's to replace the successful Mk 44 torpedo. It was the first high performance thermal powered torpedo in US service. The complex but powerful propulsion system was chosen to keep up with Soviet submarine developments.
