Merebank is a suburb in Ethekwini, KwaZulu-Natal. Merebank is situated nearby to the suburb Merewent, as well as near Austerville. Durban International Airport was the international airport of Durban from 1951 until 2010, when it was replaced by King Shaka International Airport, 60 kilometres to the north. The airport is co-located with AFB Durban.

The Merebank Book Project will tell the story of Merebank, it's resilient and diverse community, their struggles and their victories. This non-profit initiative is a book by the community, for the community.

A book narrating the trials and travails of the “Merebanker­s” is expected to be released by the end of the year.

Merebank camp was based on the sub-tropical Natal coast, just south of Durban, in a climate which was very different from the crisp highveld air to which the Boers were accustomed. Humidity, strong winds and summer rains all contributed their discomfort, although cooler sea breezes helped to reduce the temperature in summer.
