Recommended for cultivation, isolation and enumeration of heterotrophic marine bacteria. Suspend 55.25 grams in 1000 ml purified / distilled water. Heat to boiling to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C. Mix well and Pour in sterile Petri plates.

Marine Agar 2216 and Marine Broth 2216 are used for culti-vating heterotrophic marine bacteria. Marine bacteria are present in nutrient sea water by the millions per mL and are essential to the life cycle of all marine flora and fauna.

Marine Broth 2216 formulated by Zobell, contains the nutrients, salt and trace elements which are required for the growth of marine bacteria. These media have minerals and salts as in seawater and peptone and yeast extract provides nitrogenous compounds for the marine bacteria. High amount of salt content is used to simulate seawater.
