The Maschinenkarabiner 42(W) (German: "machine carbine model 1942 (Walther)" ) or MKb 42(W) was an early German assault rifle designed in 1940-41 by Walther during World War II. The Mkb 42(W), and the more successful Maschinenkarabiner 42(H) designed by Haenel, were predecessors of the Sturmgewehr 44 (StG 44) assault rifle.

2018年7月6日 · When the German military first requested rifles in the new 8x33mm Kurz cartridge, there were two companies that provided designs. One was Haenel, who would eventually win the competition. The other was Walther, who submitted this rifle – the MKb-42 (W).

The Maschinenkarabiner 1942, more commonly known as the MKb 42 (or MkB 42), is a prototype assault rifle design. Contracts for a rifle firing 7.92×33mm rounds were sent to both Haenel and Walther, who then cobbled up a design based on the given specifications.

2014年4月24日 · MkB 42(W) In the development program that would ultimately yield the StG44, the two initial designs were produced by Haenel – the MKb42(H) and Walther – the MKb42(W). The Haenel weapon was preferred, and production of the MKb42(W) ended by early 1943, with only 200 units made.

The MKb.42(W) is a gas-operated, magazine fed weapon. The gas system has an annular gaspiston, located around the barrel, inside the stamped annular handguards. A rotating bolt of somewhat complicated design locks to the barrel via two lugs.

The MKb 42 was an assault rifle developed in Germany during World War II. It was chambered for 7.92x33mm ammunition. The MKb 42(W) was made only as a prototype trials rifle.[1]
