Xylene - PubChem
The general composition of xylenes from petroleum is 44% m-xylene, 20% o-xylene, 20% p-xylene and 15% ethylbenzene. The xylenes from coal-tar consists of 45-70% m-xylene, 23% p-xylene, 10-15% o-xylene and 6-10% ethylbenzene.
HEALTH EFFECTS - Toxicological Profile for Xylene - NCBI Bookshelf
m-Xylene was the only isomer that resulted in lasting maternal growth inhibition or maternal mortality (Ungvary et al. 1980b). Thus, it is difficult to determine from these studies whether mixed xylenes are selectively toxic to the fetus or the observed developmental toxicity was secondary to maternal toxicity.
