The LVTP-6 will eventually be FMC's unsuccessful paralleled development for Borg-Warner's LVTP-5 Based on the Army M59 APC, but never entered mass production. The LVT-6 developed by Borg Warner, part of Ingersoll (Ingersoll), Inc. was a crawler-type amphibious armored vehicle, prototype first completed by 1951.

The LVTP-5 was an evolution of the LVT-1 to LVT-4 World War II-era landing vehicle tracked series, but was considerably larger and could carry 30-34 combat-armed troops. A smaller design based on the M59 APC was also produced as the LVT-6, but only a few were built. The LVTP-5 was replaced in service by the LVT-7 family.

In the 1950s, LVTs still in service were replaced by the LVTP-5 family of vehicles (which prevailed in a competition over the LVT-6, a navalized M59); the LVTP-5 in turn were followed by the LVT-7 family, eventually redesignated Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV).

LVTP-7)—is a fully tracked amphibious landing vehicle manufactured by BAE Systems Platforms & Services (previously by United Defense, a former division of FMC Corporation). [4][5]
