Sep 20, 2024 · The train fare from Zurich’s airport to Lucerne is only 70 minutes and fares start at $22. So. you probably should just buy your train tickets as you need them. You have plenty of time to explore Lucerne— it’s beautiful and has just 80K residents. The Old Town is a five-minute walk from the train station so Lucerne is quite compact.

Dec 29, 2013 · Regarding the rail trip from Lucerne to Interlaken Ost, the shortest time I could find was 1H:50M, which seems to be consistent for every trip on that route. There appear to be departures hourly. Add about 25 minutes for the trip from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen (you'll have to change to the smaller Berner Oberland train at Interlaken Ost).

That's not to say that Lausanne doesn't have it's "charms" but for me there's something special about Lucerne, and some nice day trips possible from there. Regardless of which place you choose, be sure to pack lots of money as Switzerland is expensive!

Feb 6, 2024 · Three nights in Lucerne is great, but if that comes at the cost of reducing your time in Murren, then that’s another matter. I would go for two nights in Lucerne and five in Murren, particularly if you like to walk or hike. Lucerne is very nice, but Murren is heaven on earth.

Jan 31, 2020 · Lucerne is a 2 hr. train ride from Interlaken, due to frequent stops. You can easily get from Interlaken to Zurich airport in 2.5 hrs because it runs more as an express. Lucerne is nice, my wife and I like it for a 2 day visit.

Jan 14, 2019 · The trip from Lucerne to Kleine Scheidegg (where you connect with the Jungfraubahn) is 3H:13M with two changes. If your primary sightseeing goal is the Jungfraujoch, it would be better to stay in Lauterbrunnen or Mürren in order to reduce the travelling time.

Apr 9, 2023 · Most of the hotels in Lucerne have video shots of the summits, to check the weather at the peaks. The views from the boat heading to Rigi are incredible, and very peaceful . You definitely want to be out on the water. The Rigi trip for us was half a day. We also watched the sunset from Mt Stanserhorn, a much shorter trip, 45 min each way.

Nov 10, 2015 · Lucerne is beautiful in and of itself and has much to offer. I stayed for 5 nights last September and day tripped to Mount Rigi via Weggis and Vitznau. Cruising to Rigi offers beautiful scenery. My vote is Lucerne.

Feb 18, 2025 · Because of the recommendations here, I decided to use Lucerne as our base instead of Basel. Day 1 - fly into Basel, take a train to Lucerne and sightsee. Day 2 - take a train from lucerne to Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen -> Lucerne Day 3 - lake cruise and mountain excursion in Lucerne -> Basel Day 4 - embark Rhine River cruise at Basel.
