Doxorubicin is a cytotoxic anthracycline antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces peucetius var. caesius. It is indicated for the treatment of metastatic carcinoma of the ovary, metastatic breast cancer and AIDS related Kaposis Sarcoma (KS). The exact mechanism of the antitumor activity of doxorubicin is not known.
