What to expect: Long ridge hike up the Koolau ridgeline to the top of Lanihuli. The hike begins on the northeast side of the Pali Lookout. You will see an opening in the bamboo with a sign that advises you do not pass. Head up to the Pali Puka and veer left through the jungle.

2008年8月6日 · Lanihuli means “swirling heavens” in Hawaiian and is the peak on the Koolau Mountains above Kamehameha Schools that straddles the valleys of Nuuanu and Kalihi. At 2,700 feet elevation, Lanihuli also towers over Kaneohe on the Koolaupoko Coast of windward Oahu.

Head out on this 7.2-mile out-and-back trail near Honolulu, Oahu. Generally considered a challenging route. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

2025年1月30日 · This 7.2-mile round-trip hike climbs over 2,300 feet in elevation, taking adventurers through ironwood and cook pine forests, native ʻōhiʻa lehua groves, and narrow ridgelines with sweeping views of Oʻahu’s urban center, Nu'uanu Valley, the Ko'olau mountains interior, before a final summit view of Windward Oahu.

This challenging hike climbs Nu'uanu Saddle from the Pali Puka to the summit of Lanihuli. You'll enjoy hours of knife-edge ridgetops, dramatic cliffs, continuous stunning views and a big sense of accomplishment. Challenges include steep slippery terrain, long stretches of dangerous exposure and tricky scrambling above dizzying drops.

Lanihuli Observatory supports both astronomical and meteorological education and research for the college's astronomy classes, Hawai‘i Space Grant students and the general public. Its community outreach efforts include a visitor's gallery.
