Vendée (French pronunciation: [vɑ̃de] ⓘ) is a department in the Pays de la Loire region in Western France, on the Atlantic coast. In 2019, it had a population of 685,442. [3] . Its prefecture is La Roche-sur-Yon. The area today called the Vendée was originally known as the Bas-Poitou and is part of the former province of Poitou.
