
NER Class S2 - Wikipedia
The North Eastern Railway Class S2 - London and North Eastern Railway Class B15 - was a mixed-traffic 4-6-0 steam locomotive designed by Vincent Raven. The design was based on NER Class S. The first seven were built with saturated (non-superheated) boilers, however the remaining thirteen were fitted with Robinson 24-element superheaters.

The Class S2 (LNER B15) was Raven 's first 4-6-0, and was designed for mixed traffic work unlike the NER's existing 4-6-0s (B13 and B14). The Class S2 incorporated a larger diameter boiler, following the successful use of such boilers on other recent NER designs.

2024年11月11日 · The new locomotives performed adequately, but steamed poorly when handled with crew who weren't used the B15's, a problem shared with the B13 (NER Class S). As such, they were quite unpopular with crew. All passed to the LNER by the 1923 grouping, with the first withdrawal in 1937, and the last survivor, No. 1696 (NER 820) was withdrawn in 1947.

2012年8月7日 · I Recently bought a book named the noth eastern records volume 2 and 3. In thisd book it showed the NER S2 with the Stumpf Uniflow Cylinders. This caught my eye with the size of the cylinders and the odd shape. I love the LNER way and ultimatly the A4's but building 5" loco's i would love to build one of these S2's with uniflow cylinders.
